    Welded pipes and seamless pipes are the two basic types of steel pipes. They differ in manufacturing processes, structural characteristics, application fields, etc.:


    • Manufacturing process:

    Welded pipe: Made by bending, forming and welding steel plates or strips. Common welding processes include ERW (resistance welding), SAW (submerged arc welding) and EFW (electrofusion welding).

    Seamless pipes are manufactured through a continuous casting process in which steel billets are stretched under high temperatures and pressures and passed through a specific mold to form a seamless tubular structure. The manufacturing process of seamless pipes includes hot extrusion and cold drawing.

    • Structural characteristics:

    Welded Pipe: Welded pipe has a noticeable weld seam, which can be a weak point in its construction, especially if it is subjected to high pressure or stress.

    Seamless Pipe: Seamless pipe has no welds and therefore has a more uniform wall thickness and greater structural integrity. This makes seamless pipe more reliable in applications withstanding high pressures and corrosive media.

    • Application areas:

    Welded Pipe: Due to its lower cost, welded pipe is commonly used in general engineering and construction projects such as water pipes, building structures, etc.

    Seamless pipes: Due to their high strength and pressure resistance, seamless pipes are commonly used in high-pressure pipes and boiler pipes in the oil, gas, chemical and power industries.

    • Physical properties:

    Welded Pipe: Welded pipe may not have the same mechanical properties as seamless pipe, especially when subjected to high pressures or stresses.

    Seamless Pipe: Seamless pipe generally has better mechanical properties, including higher tensile strength and better pressure-bearing capacity.


    In general, seamless pipes are generally used in applications that require higher strength and pressure resistance, while welded pipes are suitable for cost-sensitive applications where strength requirements are not particularly high. The choice of seamless or welded pipe depends on specific application needs and environmental conditions.
